HSK 3.0 Is Coming: What Chinese Learners Need to Know for 2027
Chinese Testing International (CTI) has confirmed that HSK 3.0 will be officially administered worldwide for the first time on 13 December 2026.
The announcement was published on CTI’s official WeChat account, 汉考国际CTI, on 8 September 2026. From January 2027, HSK 3.0 will become the standard version of the HSK examination worldwide.
For Chinese learners, this is the point when preparation needs to move fully towards the new standards. Vocabulary, characters, grammar, language tasks and exam expectations are changing, so materials designed around the previous HSK may no longer be enough.
What changes for learners from 2027?
Learners planning to take the HSK in 2027 should prepare according to the new system. Although some level names remain familiar, the content and difficulty do not always correspond directly to the previous HSK.
This makes it important to check whether the vocabulary lists, grammar points, exercises and practice tests you are using were created specifically for HSK 3.0.
What is changing with HSK 3.0?
HSK 3.0 is designed to assess a broader and more practical range of Chinese-language skills.
The practical consequence is simple: learners should now build their study plan around the new HSK standards rather than treating HSK 3.0 as a small update to the previous exam.
What should you update in your study plan?
Prepare with HSK GO
The learning content in HSK GO is based on HSK 3.0.
Learners can study the vocabulary, characters, grammar and language skills required under the new system instead of relying on materials created for the previous exam.
HSK GO is available on iOS and Android, with structured New HSK learning content for Levels 1 to 3. Learners can also take the HSK 1 and HSK 2 tests online directly in the HSK GO app and earn HSK certification after passing.
Then check your progress with HSK Mock
HSK Mock offers HSK 3.0 mock tests for New HSK Levels 1 to 6, helping learners become familiar with the new question types, test structure and online interface.
After completing a New HSK mock test, learners can also review a detailed Score Report covering performance, grammar, topics, tasks, words and characters to review next, and recommended next steps for study.
Start preparing for the new HSK
The official launch date is now confirmed, and the transition to HSK 3.0 is close.
If you plan to take the HSK in 2027, make sure the materials you use follow the new standards and reflect the vocabulary, grammar and language skills required at your level.
Use HSK GO to learn the updated content, then use HSK Mock to practise with the new exam format and identify what to improve next.
